Non-Diner Brunch

This city has some amazing spots for brunch- Monki, Diner Deluxe, Over Easy, Dairy Lane- which are great if you're not in a hurry and don't mind waiting in line (or if you can sneak in on a weekday). Typically, when we decide to go out, we're already starving and want to get in as soon as we can. Here are a few great brunch and breakfast alternatives for those times you need food and a mimosa STAT.

Ox and Angela- they have an incredible breakfast tasting menu as well as a la carte items. I'd recommend the olive oil chocolate chip pancakes. I dream of those and their french press coffee!

Cassis Bistro- we checked out this cute french bistro a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. If you're willing to be really indulgent, their rosé cocktail and croque madame should not be missed!

Cucina (closed on Sunday)- The wild BC mushrooms & poaches eggs on toast is everything. I ate it too fast to take a photo!

All three spots take reservations which makes brunching even easier. Enjoy!

Summer Beauty Favorites

I've never been a fan of wearing a lot of makeup. One of my favorite things about summer is being able to get away with less of it while still looking fresh. Here are a few of my favorite things.

I like to start by mixing Bobbi Brown foundation into my daily moisturizer (which has an additional SPF). It keeps the foundation nice and light while still providing protection from the sun.

I use Tarte Cheek Stain and Nars Illuminator for dewy looking skin.

I use next to no eye shadow in the warmer months. To keep me looking awake, I really love this Benefit mascara.

I'm totally obsessed with Bobbi Brown's Beach scent for summer. It smells like the world's most amazing sunscreen. I throw this body oil on after the shower and it takes me right back to a beach vacation.

That's my entire summer beauty routine. It takes all of five minutes and I'm out the door and enjoying the sunshine.

Time with Dad- Get Outta Town

Lastly, take dad and the rest of the family on an adventure out of town. Head for award winning burgers or brunch at the Chuckwagon Cafe in Turner Valley. It gets a bit crazy on the weekends, so you might have to wait in line, but it's worth it! Afterwards, head to Elbow Falls for an easy hike and a beautiful view.

Whatever you decide to do this weekend, be sure to let your dad know just how awesome he is.

Have a good one :)

Time with Dad- Bowling and Beer

The next idea for Father's Day is for the older kids. Take your dad to National on 10th for bowling, brunch and brewskies. It gets busy, so be sure to call ahead to book your lane.

Time with Dad- Picnic in the Park

I was chatting with my brother about what to get our dad for Father's Day. After I threw out a few lame suggestions (my Dad is IMPOSSIBLE to buy for), my brother suggested that we plan a family outing where all he has to do is show up and have fun. In that spirit, I've got a few ideas this week to spend some quality time with dad- because that's all he really wants anyway.

First up: picnic in the park

Pack up some cheese, meat, salads, etc. and head down to a local park. Many have BBQ pits to roast hot dogs or, if you want to go a bit fancier, River Cafe offers picnic baskets to take away and is perfectly located on Prince's Island. Grab some bocce balls or a ball glove and you've got a great (and grand kid friendly) afternoon.
